About This Certification

The LMFT licensure examination tests the clinical knowledge and skills required to practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist. LMFT practitioners are trained in systemic and relational approaches to mental health, treating individuals, couples, and families across diverse presenting problems in community and private practice settings.

Exam Overview

The AMFTRB MFT National Examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (175 scored) with a 3.5-hour time limit. Questions draw from the MFT Knowledge and Skills Base and cover assessment, diagnosis, treatment, ethics, and professional practice domains.
